An update

It seems it's sometime since I added to my blog. Since returning from our honeymoon the motel has kept us busy with Robin painting rooms , updating some of the TV's in preparation for digital TV which comes to our part of the world in May 2011. Three more have been purchased leaving 7 more to be purchased before the changeover date.
During the past couple of months we have made a couple of trips to Ballarat and had the pleasure of the company of member of our family & friends staying and visiting . I have made a few trips to Frankston catching up with friends and for shopping.
Robin had an enjoyable if not wet day at the track on Phillip Island during the motor bike grandprix in November.
We managed a night away even if it meant getting up at 4.30 am to be back here for duty. An enjoyable time was had by all.

Christmas preparations are well under way with most of the shopping done. This weekend , the 11th of Dec. sees us planning our trip to Ballarat to catch up with our parents , children, siblings and friends for the day, our only opportunity to celebrate Christmas with some of them
On the 20th my daughter will be down for a couple of nights with Christmas feasts planned for both nights as she will be on night duty at the Alfred. The requests are for a Christmas roast on the first night, a seafood extravaganze the second and if she stays the third a barbque.

The night of the 23rd Robins eldest daughter, husband and children arrive for Christmas, staying until the Monday. His youngest daughter , husband and grandson arrive around lunch time on Christmas day by which time Robin and I should have finished cleaning the rooms.
We are planning a spread of cold meats and salads with all the Christmas trimmings.

I wish everyone a very happy and safe Christmas and New year.

Our Wedding

On July 31st ,2010 Robin and I married in Ballarat our home town with our children, grandchildren and my sister Patsy present. We chose a beautiful little B&B set in an Australian bush setting for our service. The weather was a typical Ballarat winters day with one very surprising element, it managed to stay dry and the shone for the photos outside following the service.
Following the service and photos we enjoyed a light lunch prepared by our great hosts at the B&B.
Once this concluded we visited my parents at the nursing home where they both now live for a small afternoon tea/reception where we cut our first wedding cake.
That evening we were joined by our children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews and good friends for a meal at Harry Limes Restuarant in Ballarat. A beautiful meal and setting was enjoyed by all.

Life continued to be very busy here at our small country motel with lots of trademen working in the local area staying here all week and the weekends continued to be busy until the last couple of weeks which we also found last year once the colder, wetter weather arrived.
Our wedding is now only 3 weeks away with me still waiting for my outfit to arrive from America . I orderd online as I found something I had to have. Now with the date coming closer have an alternative outfit just incase..

Have been catching up on my sewing today and sorting out and taking some pics for my blog.

Lesson 5 Challenge Piece

The challenge was called Reveal and Conceal.

For this challenge I have machine embellished a piece of patterned chiffon to felt adding hand and machine stitching before applying the heat gun. I think so far this has been my favourite part of the course.

Lesson 5

Wool and Silk yarn has been machine felted to synthetic felt to which I have applied to heat gun.

Challenge Piece Lesson 4

The challenge was to use knitting in the piece. I have knitted up different yarns which I have then machine felted together and then hand stitched for further embellishment. I have given this piece a title
Elephant Roaming the Savannah.

Lesson 4

Hand dyed muslin and knitted squares machine felted to a piece of felt. Metallic threads machined and beading used for embellishing.

Lesson 4 continued

Knitted piece felted to chiffon background and patterned netting felted to pink felt .

Lesson 4

A patterned chiffon scarf machine felted to felt . Yarns then felted onto chiffon.

Lesson 3

Strips of embellished felt have been woven together to form finished sample .

Lesson 3 Challenge Piece

A mosiac created by embellishing sari strips to a felt background which have been cut up and then placed in a pattern to form a mosiac

Time to catch up

The past few weeks we have been very busy running the motel with many nights where we were able to put the no vacancy sign 0ut. We have also been assessed by the RACV ratings and have retained our 3 stars for this year.
Inbetween we had a long day in Ballarat visiting our parents, siblings and Robins children and grandchildren. Part of the reason for our trip was make arrangements for our wedding which has been planned for the 31st of July. We are holding a small ceromony with our children and my sister present. Later visiting with my parents who are both now in care and then holding a celebration dinner with our families.
There has also been some time to participate in the online course I have been doing which has taught me a lot about the ways in which I can use my felting machine. There is still the final challenge left which I hope to attempt this weekend.

More from lesson 2

Samples from Lesson 2 include using foil, fabric scraps felted then embellished with hand stitching and beading. Third item is a piece of yellow felt to which yarns and fabric were added and then overlayed with chiffon then embellished using felting machine. Hand stitching added before heat gun applied .
